A Bulgarian born costume designer, Denitsa’s academic background includes a BFA in Fashion Design at the Parson’s School of Design in Paris and New York and an MFA in Theatre from Brandeis University. She is currently a full professor at San Diego State University where she leads the MFA Costume Design program and is also the Head of the Design and Technology Program.
Denitsa’s costume design work has been seen nation-wide at venues such as: Mark Taper Forum, Old Globe Theatre, Geffen Playhouse, La Jolla Playhouse, South Coast Rep, San Diego Opera, Denver Center for the Performing Arts, The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, San Jose Rep, Cleveland Playhouse, A Noise Within, Falcon Theatre, Long Wharf Theatre, and Williamstown Theatre Festival, among others. She also has either supervised or consulted on productions at the San Diego Opera, Quixote Studios, and the Soul Dance, Fusion of Space and Mind production at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London.
Highlights include Murder in the Cathedral at San Diego Opera, The Merry Wives of Windsor at The Old Globe Theatre, working with Garry Marshall on Happy Days, the Musical at the Falcon Theatre. Costume design and stylist credits for other media include various music videos, short and full length films. As an assistant designer, Denitsa has worked at the Santa Fe Opera, Long Wharf Theatre, and Williamstown Theatre Festival.
Denitsa is a member of United Scenic Artists local 829 Union, United States Institute for Theatre Technology and Costume Society of America.
